**Policy Summary: Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/1289**
This regulation, issued by the European Commission on July 18, 2022, enters the name "Hruovský lepeník" into the register of protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications (PGI). This action follows Article 52(2) of Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012, which concerns quality schemes for agricultural products and foodstuffs.
The regulation stems from Slovakia's application, published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJ C 154, 8.4.2022, p. 19), to register "Hruovský lepeník." Because the Commission received no statements of opposition within the stipulated timeframe under Article 51 of Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012, the registration was approved.
Article 1 of the regulation formally enters "Hruovský lepeník PGI" into the register. The designated product falls under Class 2.3, encompassing bread, pastry, cakes, confectionery, biscuits, and other bakers' wares, as defined in Annex XI to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 668/2014.
Article 2 states that the regulation took effect on the twentieth day following its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union (July 25, 2022). The regulation is binding in its entirety and directly applicable in all Member States.
The regulation was issued in Brussels and signed on behalf of the Commission by Janusz Wojciechowski, Member of the Commission. The legal basis includes the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012. Reference is also made to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 668/2014.
