Official Journal EN of the European Union L series 2025/1816 10.9.2025 COMMISSION IMPLEMENTING REGULATION(EU) 2025/1816 of 4 September 2025 entering the geographical indication ‘Queso de Burgos’ (PGI) in the Union register of geographical indications pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2024/1143 of the European Parliament and of the Council THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION, Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, Having regard to Regulation (EU) 2024/1143 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 April 2024 on geographical indications for wine, spirit drinks and agricultural products, as well as traditional specialities guaranteed and optional quality terms for agricultural products, amending Regulations (EU) No 1308/2013, (EU) 2019/787 and (EU) 2019/1753 and repealing Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012(1), and in particular Article 21(2) thereof, Whereas: (1) Pursuant to Article 50(2), point (a), of Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council(2), Spain’s application for registration of the geographical indication ‘Queso de Burgos’, which the Commission had received before the date of entry into force of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143, was published in the Official Journal of the European Union(3). (2) No statement of opposition under Article 17 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143, which is applicable to the application for registration in accordance with Article 90(2) of that Regulation, has been received by the Commission. (3) The geographical indication ‘Queso de Burgos’ should therefore be entered in the Union register of geographical indications. (4) By letters received on 25 March 2025 and 30 May 2025, the Spanish authorities requested the Commission to grant a transitional period of three years, in accordance with Article 20(1) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143, in favour of several companies which are established outside the geographical area defined in the product specifications and which had legally marketed products under the name ‘Queso de Burgos’ and continuously used the name for more than five years prior to the date of publication of the application for registration of ‘Queso de Burgos’ (PGI) in the Official Journal of the European Union(i.e. 30 December 2024). The Commission was informed that this point had been raised in the context of the national opposition procedure. (5) Since the requirements laid down in Article 20(1), point (b), of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143, which are applicable to the application for registration in accordance with Article 90(2) of that Regulation, are met, a transitional period of three years should be granted to allow the companies in question to continue to use the name ‘Queso de Burgos’, HAS ADOPTED THIS REGULATION: Article 1 The geographical indication ‘Queso de Burgos’ (PGI) is hereby entered in the Union register of geographical indications referred to in Article 22 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143.
