the Council
THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION,
Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union,
Having regard to Regulation (EU) 2024/1143 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 April 2024 on
geographical indications for wine, spirit drinks and agricultural products, as well as traditional specialities guaranteed and
optional quality terms for agricultural products, amending Regulations (EU) No 1308/2013, (EU) 2019/787 and
(EU) 2019/1753 and repealing Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012(1), and in particular Article 21(2) thereof,

(3) The geographical indication ‘Erbazzone Reggiano’ should therefore be entered in the Union register of geographical
indications.
(4) By letter received on 28 April 2025, the Italian authorities notified the Commission that the company Sfoglia Torino
S.r.l., which is established on their territory outside the geographical area concerned, had been legally marketing a
product sold under the name ‘Erbazzone Reggiano’, using this name continuously for more than five years, and that
this point had been noted in the national opposition procedure.
(5) Since the conditions laid down in Article 20(1)(b) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143 have been met, the company Sfoglia
Torino S.r.l. should be granted a transitional period to allow it to continue using the name ‘Erbazzone Reggiano’. In
view of the information provided by the Italian authorities concerning the agreement between the applicant
producer group and the company Sfoglia Torino S.r.l., the transitional period should extend until 31 December 2028,
