**Policy Summary: Commission Regulation (EU) 2018/650** This regulation, enacted on April 20, 2018, by the European Commission, establishes a prohibition of fishing for anglerfish (Lophiidae) in specific areas by vessels flying the flag of France. The regulation is based on Council Regulation (EC) No 1224/2009, which establishes a Union control system for ensuring compliance with the rules of the common fisheries policy. The key provisions of the regulation are as follows: * **Quota Exhaustion:** The fishing quota allocated to France for anglerfish (ANF/8C3411) in zones 8c, 9, and 10, including Union waters of CECAF 34.1.1, for 2018 is deemed exhausted as of March 14, 2018. * **Prohibition of Fishing Activities:** Fishing activities for anglerfish in the specified zones by vessels flying the flag of France are prohibited from March 14, 2018. This includes the prohibition of retaining on board, relocating, transhipping, or landing anglerfish caught by these vessels after this date. * **Entry into Force:** The regulation entered into force on the day following its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union (April 27, 2018). The legal basis for this regulation is Council Regulation (EU) 2018/120, which lays down quotas for 2018. The Director-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, João Aguiar Machado, signed the regulation on behalf of the Commission President.
