Executive Summary & Key Takeaways

This Commission Regulation (EU) 2018/651, dated April 23, 2018, establishes a prohibition of fishing for red seabream (Pagellus bogaraveo) in Union and international waters of ICES zones VI, VII, and VIII by vessels flying the flag of France. The regulation, based on Council Regulation (EC) No 1224/2009, deems the 2018 quota allocated to France for this stock (SBR/678) to be exhausted as of March 14, 2018. Consequently, fishing activities targeting red seabream in the specified areas by French-flagged vessels are prohibited from that date, including retaining on board, relocating, transhipping, or landing any red seabream caught after March 14, 2018. The regulation entered into force on the day following its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. The Director-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, João Aguiar Machado, signed the regulation on behalf of the Commission President.
