Official Journal EN of the European Union L series 2024/1241 30.4.2024 COUNCIL DECISION (CFSP) 2024/1241 of 29 April 2024 amending Decision (CFSP) 2021/1694 in support of the universalisation, implementation and strengthening of the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects (CCW) THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION, Having regard to the Treaty on European Union, and in particular Articles 28(1) and 31(1) thereof, Having regard to the proposal from the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Whereas: (1) On 21 September 2021, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2021/1694 (1). (2) On 16 June 2023, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2023/1181 (2) extending the implementation period of Decision (CFSP) 2021/1694 until 8 May 2024. (3) On 3 April 2024, the implementing agency, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), requested an additional no-cost extension of the project until 31 December 2024. (4) The extension is requested due to substantial challenges, inter alia, caused by the security situation in the countries and regions targeted by the project, as well as continued delays due to earlier delays in recruitment for the project. (5) The extension will allow UNODA to finalise the objectives and activities of the project, HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION: Article 1 In Article 5 of Decision (CFSP) 2021/1694, the second paragraph is replaced by the following: ‘This Decision shall expire on 31 December 2024.’.
