Official Journal EN of the European Union L series 2025/1236 20.6.2025 COUNCIL DECISION (CFSP) 2025/1236 of 16 June 2025 appointing the Deputy Chairman of the Military Committee of the European Union THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION, Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, and in particular Article 240 thereof, Having regard to Council Decision 2001/79/CFSP of 22 January 2001 setting up the Military Committee of the European Union(1), Whereas: (1) Pursuant to paragraph 4 of the Annex to Decision 2001/79/CFSP, when absent, the Chairman of the Military Committee of the European Union (the ‘Military Committee’) is to be replaced by the permanent Deputy Chairman of the Military Committee of the European Union (the ‘Deputy Chairman’), if it is so decided to create and fill the post. (2) On 15 October 2024, the Military Committee, meeting at the level of the Chiefs of Defence, agreed to create the post of Deputy Chairman. The Deputy Chairman should be appointed by the Council on the recommendation of the Military Committee. (3) At its meeting on 30 April 2025, the Military Committee recommended that Major General Enrico BARDUANI be appointed as the Deputy Chairman for a period of 3 years, from 1 December 2025 to 30 November 2028, HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION: Article 1 Major General Enrico BARDUANI is hereby appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the Military Committee of the European Union, for a period of 3 years, from 1 December 2025 to 30 November 2028.
