Executive Summary & Key Takeaways

**Summary:** Council Decision (EU) 2021/792, adopted on May 6, 2021, establishes the European Union's position within the Joint Committee on Organic Products concerning the adoption of its rules of procedure. The Joint Committee was established by the Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Chile on trade in organic products, which entered into force on January 1, 2018 (Council Decision (EU) 2017/2307). Article 8 of the Agreement mandates the Joint Committee to manage the agreement and adopt its own rules of procedure. This decision ensures that the EU's stance within the Joint Committee aligns with the draft decision regarding these rules of procedure, which will be binding on the Union. The legal basis for this decision is the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, specifically Article 207(4) in conjunction with Article 218(9). The President of the Council, J. Borrell Fontelles, signed the decision in Brussels. The draft decision of the Joint Committee on Organic Products can be found in document ST 7778/21 at http://register.consilium.europa.eu.
