Official Journal EN of the European Union L series 2024/1361 31.5.2024 COUNCIL DECISION (EU) 2024/1361 of 22 April 2024 on the conclusion, on behalf of the Union, of the Agreement in the form of an Exchange of Letters between the European Union and the Arab Republic of Egypt pursuant to Article XXVIII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) 1994 relating to the modification of concessions on all the tariff rate quotas included in the EU Schedule CLXXV as a consequence of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION, Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, and in particular Article 207(4), first subparagraph, in conjunction with Article 218(6), second subparagraph, point (a)(v) thereof, Having regard to the proposal from the European Commission, Having regard to the consent of the European Parliament (1), Whereas: (1) In accordance with Council Decision (EU) 2023/2198 (2), the Agreement in the form of an Exchange of Letters between the European Union and the Arab Republic of Egypt pursuant to Article XXVIII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) 1994 relating to the modification of concessions on all the tariff rate quotas included in the EU Schedule CLXXV as a consequence of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the Union (‘the Agreement’) was signed on behalf of the Union on 20 December 2023, subject to its conclusion at a later date. (2) The objective of the Agreement is to provide, pursuant to Article XXVIII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) 1994, for the apportionment of the tariff rate quotas included in the EU Schedule CLXXV as a consequence of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the Union. (3) The Agreement should be approved on behalf of the Union, HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION: Article 1 The Agreement in the form of an Exchange of Letters between the European Union and the Arab Republic of Egypt pursuant to Article XXVIII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) 1994 relating to the modification of concessions on all the tariff rate quotas included in the EU Schedule CLXXV as a consequence of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union is hereby approved on behalf of the Union (3). Article 2 The President of the Council shall, on behalf of the Union, give the notification provided for in the Agreement (4).
