Council Decision (EU) 2024/2691 of 8 October 2024 appointing a member and two alternate members, proposed by the Kingdom of Spain, of the Committee of the Regions

Official Journal EN of the European Union L series 2024/2691 14.10.2024 COUNCIL DECISION (EU) 2024/2691 of 8 October 2024 appointing a member and two alternate members, proposed by the Kingdom of Spain, of the Committee of the Regions THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION, Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, and in particular Article 305 thereof, Having regard to Council Decision (EU) 2019/852 of 21 May 2019 determining the composition of the Committee of the Regions (1), Having regard to the proposals of the Spanish Government,

Whereas:

(1) Pursuant to Article 300(3) of the Treaty, the Committee of the Regions is to consist of representatives of regional and local bodies who either hold a regional or local authority electoral mandate or are politically accountable to an elected assembly.

(2) On 10 December 2019, the Council adopted Decision (EU) 2019/2157 (2), appointing the members and alternate members of the Committee of the Regions for the period from 26 January 2020 to 25 January 2025. On 18 July 2022, the Council adopted Decision (EU) 2022/1261 (3) appointing an alternate member, proposed by the Kingdom of Spain, of the Committee of the Regions. On 30 January 2023, the Council adopted Decision (EU) 2023/227 (4) appointing a member and an alternate member, proposed by the Kingdom of Spain, of the Committee of the Regions.

(3) A member’s seat on the Committee of the Regions has become vacant following the end of the national mandate on the basis of which Ms Meritxell SERRET I ALEU was proposed for appointment.

(4) Two alternate members’ seats on the Committee of the Regions have become vacant following the end of the national mandates on the basis of which Mr Juan GARCÍA-GALLARDO FRINGS and Mr Joan CALABUIG RULL were proposed for appointment.

(5) The Spanish Government has proposed Mr Salvador ILLA ROCA, representative of a regional body who is politically accountable to an elected assembly, President de la Generalitat de Catalunya (President of the Government of Catalonia), as a member of the Committee of the Regions for the remainder of the current term of office, which runs until 25 January 2025.

(6) The Spanish Government has proposed the following representatives of regional bodies who are politically accountable to an elected assembly as alternate members of the Committee of the Regions for the remainder of the current term of office, which runs until 25 January 2025: Ms María Isabel BLANCO LLAMAS, Vicepresidenta de la Junta de Castilla y León (Vice-President of the Regional Government of Castilla y León) and Mr Pablo Gustavo BROSETA DUPRÉ, Secretario Autonómico de Representación ante la UE y las CCAA Generalitat Valenciana (Vice-minister for Representation to the European Union and the Spanish Autonomous Regions. Government of the Region of Valencia),

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1 The following representatives of regional bodies who are politically accountable to an elected assembly are hereby appointed to the Committee of the Regions for the remainder of the current term of office, which runs until 25 January 2025:

Article 2 This Decision shall enter into force on the date of its adoption.
