Executive Summary & Key Takeaways

**Policy Summary: EEA Joint Committee Decision No. 117/2025 Regarding Wine Trade** This decision, enacted by the EEA Joint Committee on May 8, 2025, amends Protocol 47 to the EEA Agreement concerning the elimination of technical barriers to trade in wine. The primary objective is to incorporate Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/2742, which registers "Urbezo PDO" as a protected designation of origin, into the EEA Agreement. Specifically, Article 1 of the decision adds point "8zo" referencing Regulation (EU) 2024/2742 to Appendix 1 of Protocol 47. Article 2 affirms the authenticity of the Icelandic and Norwegian language versions of Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/2742, which will be published in the EEA Supplement to the Official Journal of the European Union. This decision does not apply to Liechtenstein due to the existing agreement between the European Community and Switzerland on agricultural product trade, which extends to Liechtenstein. The decision came into effect on May 9, 2025, contingent upon the completion of all notifications required under Article 103(1) of the EEA Agreement. The decision was published in the EEA Section of, and the EEA Supplement to, the Official Journal of the European Union.
