Official Journal EN of the European Union L series 2024/2086 26.7.2024 EUROPEAN COUNCIL DECISION (EU) 2024/2086 of 24 July 2024 appointing the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy THE EUROPEAN COUNCIL, Having regard to the Treaty on European Union, and in particular Article 18(1) thereof, Whereas: (1) European Council Decision (EU) 2019/1330 (1) appointed the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Mr Josep BORRELL FONTELLES, until 31 October 2024. (2) A new High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy should be appointed for the period from the end of the current term of office of the European Commission until 31 October 2029. (3) By letter of 22 July 2024, the President-elect of the Commission has agreed to the appointment of Ms Kaja KALLAS as High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. (4) In accordance with Article 17(7), third subparagraph, of the Treaty on European Union, the President, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and the other members of the Commission are subject as a body to a vote of consent by the European Parliament, HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION: Article 1 Ms Kaja KALLAS is hereby appointed High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy for the period from the end of the current term of office of the Commission until 31 October 2029.
