Official Journal EN of the European Union L series 2023/2223 20.10.2023 POLITICAL AND SECURITY COMMITTEE DECISION (CFSP) 2023/2223 of 17 October 2023 on the appointment of the Head of the Civilian Command and Support Cell of the European Union Security and Defence Initiative in support of West African countries of the Gulf of Guinea (EUSDI) (EUSDI/1/2023) THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION, Having regard to the Treaty on European Union, and in particular Article 38 thereof, Having regard to Council Decision (CFSP) 2023/1599 of 3 August 2023 on a European Union Security and Defence Initiative in support of West African countries of the Gulf of Guinea(1), and in particular Article 3 thereof, Whereas: (1) By means of Decision (CFSP) 2023/1599, the Council authorised the Political and Security Committee, in accordance with Article 38 of the Treaty on European Union, to take the relevant decisions to exercise the political control and strategic direction of the European Union Security and Defence Initiative in support of West African countries of the Gulf of Guinea (EUSDI), including the decision on the appointment of the Head of the Civilian Command and Support Cell. (2) On 5 October 2023, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy proposed that Mr Philippe CHEVET be appointed as Head of the Civilian Command and Support Cell. (3) A decision on the appointment of the Head of the Civilian Command and Support Cell should be taken, HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION: Article 1 Mr Philippe CHEVET is hereby appointed as Head of the Civilian Command and Support Cell of the European Union Security and Defence Initiative in support of West African countries of the Gulf of Guinea (EUSDI) from 20 October 2023 until 19 October 2024.
