The Ministry of Railways is implementing the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme with a
long-term vision for the redevelopment and modernisation of railway stations across
the country. The Scheme envisages the preparation of Master Plans and phased
redevelopment of stations to provide modern passenger amenities, improved
accessibility and enhanced multimodal integration.
Under the Scheme, railway stations are being upgraded with modern station
buildings, improved circulating areas, spacious waiting halls, toilets, seating
arrangements, drinking water facilities, wider Foot Over Bridges, subways, lifts,
escalators, ramps, improved platform surfaces and shelters, digital passenger
information systems, executive lounges, parking facilities, landscaping and kiosks
for promotion of local products under the 'One Station One Product' initiative. The
redevelopment also focuses on creating environmentally sustainable infrastructure
and transforming railway stations into vibrant city centres.
A total of 1,340 railway stations have been identified for redevelopment under the
Amrit Bharat Station Scheme across the country. Of these, 132 stations are located
in Maharashtra, including Amalner, Chalisgaon, Dharangaon, Pachora Junction and
Jalgaon in the Jalgaon Lok Sabha Constituency.
The implementation of the Scheme is progressing steadily in Maharashtra.
Development works have been completed at 20 railway stations, namely Amgaon,
Baramati, Byculla, Chanda Fort, Chinchpokli, Devlali, Dhule, Himayatnagar,
Kedgaon, Lasalgaon, Lonand Junction, Malkapur, Matunga, Murtizapur Junction,
Nandura, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Itwari Junction, Parel, Savda, Shahad and
Vadala Road.
Significant progress has also been made at stations in the Jalgaon Lok Sabha
Constituency. At Amalner, platform shelters have been completed, while works
relating to the new station building, Foot Over Bridge, entry and exit gates, toilets,
circulating area, parking facilities and platform improvements are in progress. At
Chalisgaon, the entrance porch, entrance gate, boundary wall and platform sheltershave been completed, while construction of the Foot Over Bridge, lifts, escalators,
station building and other passenger amenities is underway. At Dharangaon, works
relating to the new station building, booking office, Foot Over Bridge, platform
improvements and parking facilities are progressing. At Pachora Junction, major
works including the booking office, entrance gate, boundary wall, station building
improvements, Foot Over Bridge, toilets, circulating area, parking facilities and
platform shelters have been completed, while installation of lifts is in progress. The
Master Plan for Jalgaon station is currently under preparation.
The Ministry stated that development, redevelopment, upgradation and
modernisation of railway stations is a continuous process undertaken based on
operational requirements, passenger needs, inter-se priorities and availability of
funds. Special emphasis is being laid on ensuring accessibility for Divyangjan and
persons with reduced mobility under the ‘Sugamya Bharat Mission’ through ramps,
accessible parking, low-height ticket counters, accessible toilets, lifts, Braille
signages and tactile pathways.
The Ministry further noted that station redevelopment projects involve complex
engineering and operational requirements, including passenger safety, statutory
clearances, utility shifting and uninterrupted train operations during execution. For
the four railway zones serving Maharashtra, an allocation of Rs. 3,543 crore has
been made under Plan Head-53 ‘Customer Amenities’ during 2026–27, against
which an expenditure of Rs. 1,671 crore had been incurred up to June 2026.
