Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs 18th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition 2024 Chennai City wins the Best Public Transport System Udaipur wins City with the Best Non-Motorized Transport System Aizwal Special Award for Mizoram’s Traffic Management System Posted On: 09 NOV 2025 7:00PM by PIB Delhi The three-days Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition 2025,concludes in Gurugram, Haryana today. The event marked the release of various publications. During the Valedictory event the logo of PM e- Bus Sewa Scheme and its website was also launched by Hon’ble Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Power.The event was graced by presence of Shri Manohar Lal , Hon’ble Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Power; Shri Nayab Singh Saini ,Hon’ble Chief Minister of Haryana ; Shri Tokhan Sahu, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs; Shri Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India; Shri Jaideep, OSD (UT), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India; Shri AK Singh ACS TCP GoH, Shri DC Dhesi Adviser UD GoH, Dr Raja Sekhar Vundru ACS Transport GoH; Shri Dr. Chander Shekhar Khare, Managing Director, Gurugram Metro Rail Ltd. and other senior officials of Government of India and Government of Haryana. It was attended by reputed national and international dignitaries. During this three days conference there were one conclave session, two plenary session which includes one mayoral session. In addition 8 technical sessions, 8 round table and 8 research symposium also took place. In these sessions there were more than 170 speakers and participation of more than 1,600 delegates from 8 countries. In exhibitions area 25 exhibitors have participated. Addressing the Valedictory Session, Hon’ble Minister Shri Manohar Lal summarised the key discussions held during the three-day conference and highlighted major outcomes and future directions. He emphasised that urban mobility planning in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities must begin today, so that when these cities evolve into Tier-1 urban centres, they are already well-planned and future-ready. The Hon’ble Minister also underscored the need to expand the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) beyond Delhi–NCR to other major metropolitan regions such as Chennai, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, to further strengthen regional connectivity and reduce travel time between urban clusters. Further, he suggested that Metro authorities may explore the introduction of premium or luxury compartments for high-income group passengers to encourage them to adopt public transport, thereby making public transit more inclusive, aspirational, and financially sustainable. He also announced that the 19th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition 2026 will be held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from 23rd to 25th October 2026.The three day conference concluded with distribution of awards in different categories of Urban Transport. The awards are given to the state / city authorities for “Excellence/ best practice projects in Urban Transport”. The following 8 categories of awards were given to the winners who have been recommended by the Awards Selection Committee headed by the high-level officers of the Government and experts of the field: City with Best Public Transport System City with Best Non- Motorized Transport City with most Innovative Financing City with the Best Green Transport Initiatives Metro Rail with the Best Multimodal Integration Metro Rail with Best Passenger Services Running Trophy for the State/UT which has Implemented Best Urban Transport Project in the previous year Special award for Efficient Traffic Management System that deserves recognition Complete List of awardees are as under:Cat.
