VACANCY FOR THE POST OF DIRECTOR
The Institute: The National Institute of Rock Mechanics (NIRM),
established in 1988 under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, is
a premier research organization specializing in both fundamental and
applied aspects of rock mechanics. It provides expert services to sectors
such as mining, civil, hydroelectric, nuclear power, and infrastructure,
with a strong focus on underground space engineering and tunnelling.
NIRM's core competencies include Engineering Geology, Geophysics,
Seismology, Seismotectonics, Geotechnical Engineering, In-situ Rock
Mass Testing, Rock Fracture Mechanics, Numerical Modelling, Rock
Blasting and Excavation, Mine Design, Tunnel Engineering, and
Geotechnical Instrumentation and Monitoring. The Institute operates
from its Head Office in Bengaluru and its Registered Office at Kolar Gold
Fields, serving as a national center for advanced geotechnical research

Contract,
Nature of appointment: The offer of appointment shall be on contract
initially for a period of 5 (five) years from the date of assumption of
charge, or till superannuation upon attaining the age of 60 years,
whichever is earlier. The incumbent will be on probation for a period of
one year.
Criteria for re-appointment: The contract can be renewed for next 5
(Five) years or till superannuation upon attaining the age of 60 years,
whicheveris earlier, on approval from the Governing Body on the basis of
: (1) Annual Appraisal Reports, (2) Evaluation Record of each year,
(3) Record of Publications, Reports, Patents, etc., (4) Contribution made
for development of the Institute, (5) Recognition received from outside
agencies in the form of S&T and Sponsored Research Projects, awards,
etc., (6) Character and conduct of the incumbent.
Selection Procedure: Selection of the Director will be done by the
