Crop calendar and Harvesting period of A remunerative and stable price environment for Black gram Black gram in the State of Tamil Nadu growers/ farmers is very important for increasing agricultural production and productivity. The market price for agricultural produce many times tends to be unstable and volatile which may result in undue losses to the growers and discourage adoption of the modern technology and required inputs. The Government’s price policy for agricultural commodities seeks to ensure remunerative prices to the growers for their produce with a view to encourage higher investment and production and to safeguard the interest of consumers by making available supplies at reasonable prices with low cost of intermediation. The price policy also seeks to evolve a balanced and integrated price structure in the perspective of the overall needs of the economy. Towards this end, the Government announce Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for major agricultural commodities each year in both the Crop seasons after taking into account the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP). Ex-II-1(593) [ 1 ]2 TAMIL NADU GOVERNMENT GAZETTE EXTRAORDINARY In the scheme for the procurement of Black gram in the year of 2025-2026 Kharif season as per the revised guidelines for Price Support Scheme (PSS) (Pulses, Oil Seeds & Copra) October 2024, issued by the Government of India, (Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare), the notification regarding Crop calendar and harvesting period of Black gram in the State of Tamil Nadu is to be required as part of proposal. Therefore, the Government of Tamil Nadu is willing to implement the Price Support Scheme (PSS) and its operation in Tamil Nadu and accordingly declare the following details:- NOTIFICATION FOR BLACK GRAM IN TAMIL NADU– KHARIF 2025-2026 1. Crop : Black gram 2. Commodity to be notified : Black gram 3. Crop calendar year : Throughout the year 4. Sowing Period : April –August 5. Harvesting period for Kharif : September - December 6. Commencement of arrival for Kharif : 2nd week of July 2025 7. Peak arrival period for Kharif : September 2025 to October 2025 8. Expected Quantity of Procurement : 22,499 MT 9. Proposed duration of the scheme and : 15.09.2025 to 14.12.2025– all the districts of Tamil Nadu districts covered (Except Chennai and the Nilgiris) 10. Details of Black gram Production for Kharif Season in Tamil Nadu a) Sowing Area : 42,397 Ha (Final Estimate 2024-25) b) Expected production : 22,499 MT (Final Estimate 2024-25) c) Average yield : 531 Kg/Ha (Final Estimate 2024-25) d) Ruling market price : Rs.87 to Rs.95 per Kg of Black gram e) Minimum Support price : Rs. 7,800 per quintal f) Major Kharif Black gram growing : all the districts of Tamil Nadu (Except Chennai and the Nilgiris) districts V.
