F. No. P&AP/MAM/2016.—In exercise of powers conferred under sub-section (1) of section 23 read with section 10(i) (k) and (o) of the All India council for Technical Education Act, 1987 (52 of 1987), the Council hereby makes the following regulations for providing nomenclature of courses and guidelines for admission of students to professional colleges, namely:- 1. Short Title, Application and Commencement: 1.1 These Regulations may be called the All India Council for Technical Education nomenclature of Courses and admission of students to Technical (Institutions) Regulations, 2016. 1.2 They shall apply to technical institutions conducting technical education and such other programs and areas as notified by the Council from time to time. 1.3 They shall come into force with effect from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. Back ground: 2.1 It has been brought to the notice of AICTE that since the 5 years Dual Degree program in Management with nomenclature of BM/BAM/MAM introduced by AICTE does not confirm to the nomenclature and criteria prescribed by University Grants Commission, the Council has decided that the 5 year dual degree courses i.e. BM/BAM/MAM with multi point exit¹Hkkx IIIµ[k.M 4º Hkkjr dk jkti=k % vlk/kj.k 3 after 3 years, 4 years and 5 years respectively be discontinued with immediate effect and no new approval be granted and no extension of approval for the existing courses with the nomenclatures of BM/BAM/MAM be issued from the Academic Year 2016-17 onwards. 2.2 The BM/BAM/MAM course with multi point exit after 3 years, 4 years and 5 years respectively be phased out and no fresh admissions should be permitted from the academic year 2016-17. 2.3 To safeguard the interests of the existing students already admitted to the BM/BAM/MAM dual degree programs approved by the Council in 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, the following procedure be followed; 2.3.1 The students, who have been admitted to BM/BAM/MAM dual degree course and completed three years should be given degree of BBA instead of BM, since BBA is listed as a recognized degree as per UGC Notification. 2.3.2 The Students, who have completed four years should not be given degree of BAM, since no such degree with 4 years of duration is available in the approved list of UGC. Instead, such students should be asked to complete one more year to get MBA integrated degree after completion of 5 years. 2.3.3 All affiliating Universities and Institutions shall adopt above changes in their rules and regulations and implement the same. 3. Interpretation If any question arises as to the interpretation of these Regulations, the same shall be decided by the Council.
