Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment AYJNISHD Mumbai celebrates 80th Independence Day with focus on inclusion and Viksit Bharat 2047 प्रव तथ: 15 AUG 2026 1:10PM by PIB Mumbai :Mumbai, August 15, 2026 Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan), Mumbai, celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm. The programme was organised in line with this year’s national theme, “Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat@2047.” Officials, guests, staff members, students, persons with speech, language and hearing disabilities, and their families participated in the celebration. The programme began with the hoisting of the National Flag by Dr. Suman Kumar, Director, AYJNISHD(D), Mumbai, followed by the National Anthem presented in Indian Sign Language. The initiative ensured that persons with hearing disabilities could participate fully in the national celebration. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Shamim Ansari, Lecturer, Department of Audiology, recalled the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and highlighted India’s progress across various sectors. He said that as the country moves towards 100 years of independence, the vision of a developed India must ensure that every citizen has access to basic needs, dignity and a safe life.Addressing the gathering, Dr. Suman Kumar highlighted the growing role of Artificial Intelligence, Digital India and the BHASHINI platform in promoting accessible and inclusive communication. He also spoke about the vision of Sapta Dhara for building a self-reliant India and called upon all stakeholders to contribute towards greater accessibility and inclusion. He emphasised the need to use emerging technologies to develop innovative solutions, improve accessibility and create greater opportunities for persons with disabilities. He encouraged youth and other stakeholders to contribute to nation- building through innovation, inclusion, responsible use of technology and dedicated service. The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, staff members, persons with disabilities, their families and other stakeholders. The programme was coordinated by Ms. Chhandasi Anarse and Shri Jashvant Singh.
