The following Governor’s Notification under Section 16 of the Representation of the People
Act, 1951 issued in No. DPAR 02 CHUVIPA 2022, dated 17-05-2022, Notification
No.322/KT-LC/2022 (MLAs) (1), dated: 17-05-2022 and No. 322/KT-LC/2022 (MLAs) (2),
dated: 17-05-2022 of the Election Commission of India are published hereunder for general
information:-

WHEREAS, the seats of seven members of the Legislative Council of the State of Karnataka,
elected by the members of Legislative Assembly of the State are due to fall vacant on 14.06.2022 on
retirement of those members, on the expiration of their term of office as detailed below:

WHEREAS, a Biennial election has to be held for the purpose of filling the above vacancies
so arising;
NOW, THEREFORE, as recommended by the Election Commission of India, in pursuance
of Section 16 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951), the Governor of the State
of Karnataka is, hereby, pleased to call upon the Members of the Legislative Assembly of the State,
to elect seven members to the Legislative Council of the State, for the purpose of filling the above
said vacancies, in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the rules and orders made
thereunder.

NOTIFICATION
No. 322/KT-LC/2022 (MLAs) (1): - WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of Karnataka has,
by notification issued under Section 16 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951)
and published in the official Gazette of the State on 17th May, 2022, been pleased to call upon the
members of the Legislative Assembly of the State, to elect seven members to the Legislative Council
of the State: -
Now, therefore, in pursuance of sub-section (1) of Section 39 and Section 56 of the said Act,
the Election Commission of India hereby –
(A) appoints, with respect to the said election –
(a) the 24th May, 2022 (Tuesday), as the last date for making nominations;
(b) the 25th May, 2022 (Wednesday), as the date for the scrutiny of the nominations;
(c) the 27th May, 2022 (Friday), as the last date for the withdrawal of candidatures;
(d) the 03rd June, 2022 (Friday), as the date on which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken; and
(e) the 07th June, 2022 (Tuesday), as the date before which the election shall be completed;
and
(B) fixes the hours from 09:00 am to 04:00 pm, as the hours during which the poll shall, if necessary,
be taken in the State on the date specified above, for the election.

NOTIFICATION
No. 322/KT-LC/2022 (MLAs) (2): - In pursuance of Section 21, and in exercise of the
powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 22, of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43
of 1951), the Election Commission of India, in consultation with the Government of Karnataka,
hereby: –
(i) designates the officer, specified in column (1) of the TABLE below, to be the
Returning Officer; and
(ii) appoints the officer, specified in column (2) of the said Table, to be the Assistant
Returning Officer to assist the Returning officer in the performance of her functions;
in respect of the biennial election to the Legislative Council of the State of Karnataka, by the
members of Legislative Assembly of the State, to be held in pursuance of the Governor’s notification
published in the official Gazette of the State on 17th May, 2022 :-
