Executive Summary & Key Takeaways

**Summary:** The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), under the Ministry of Finance, has extended the due date for filing Income Tax Returns (ITRs) from July 31, 2025, to September 15, 2025. This extension is in response to significant revisions in the notified ITR forms for Assessment Year 2025-26, which required additional time for system readiness, utility rollout, and integration. The changes to the ITRs aim to simplify compliance, enhance transparency, and improve reporting accuracy. Furthermore, the extension accounts for the delayed availability of TDS credits, which are expected to start reflecting in early June 2025. The extension intends to provide taxpayers with sufficient time for accurate and efficient return filing. A formal notification regarding this extension will be issued separately.
