The training programme for citrus cultivating farmers of Madhya Pradesh were
jointly organized by ICAR–Central Citrus Research Institute (CCRI), Nagpur and
Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Agar Malwa and Shajapur districts recently. The training
was organised under the APEDA-sponsored project “Capacity Development
Programme on Adoption of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for Citrus Farmers.”
About 300 citrus growers participated in these programmes.
Dr. Dilip Ghosh, Director, ICAR-CCRI, Nagpur, was the Course Director and Dr.
Sangeeta Bhattacharyya, Scientist (Agricultural Extension), was the Training
Coordinator. Dr. A.K. Dixit and Dr. G. Ambawatia, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK,
Agar Malwa and KVK, Shajapur, welcomed the scientist team from Nagpur on 2nd
and 3rd February 2026 and appreciated the efforts of ICAR-CCRI towards research
and extension activities in the citrus sector of the country.
Dr. Sangeeta Bhattacharyya, also being the Nodal Officer of the project, briefed
participants about the past programmes conducted under the project and the
number of targeted beneficiaries covered.During the technical sessions, Dr. Darshan
Kadam (Senior Scientist, Horticulture) sensitized farmers about the scientific
management of citrus orchards and nurseries. He emphasized key points that
farmers need to focus on while purchasing planting materials. The problems in
bahar management due to heavy soil present in both districts were discussed in
detail.
Dr. N. M. Meshram (Principal Scientist, Entomology) delivered a lecture on insect
pest management in citrus orchards, focusing especially on black fly management,
which was a major problem in the citrus orchards of the region. An interactive
session followed thereafter. The method of Bordeaux paste and spray preparation
was demonstrated through a video.Ms. Preeti Yadav, District Collector, and Mr. Vijay
Chaurasia, Deputy Director of Agriculture, were present during the certificate
distribution ceremony for farmer trainees in Agar Malwa. Ms. Yadav appreciated the
efforts of KVK and ICAR-CCRI in training citrus growers of the region.
Dr. Shaktawat and other staff from KVK, Agar Malwa, and Dr. Mukesh Singh along
with other staff of KVK, Shajapur, were in charge of coordinating the programme in
their respective KVKs. A field visit was also conducted by the ICAR-CCRI scientist
