The Confederation of Indian Industry (Western Region), in association with the Directorate
General of Taxpayer Services, organised a webinar today focusing on key customs facilitation
measures aimed at easing trade and improving compliance.
Discussions centred on the Duty Deferment Facility, which helps ease working capital pressures
for importers, and the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Scheme, offering faster clearances
and lower inspection requirements for compliant businesses.
Shri Vaibhav Vohra, Chairman, CII WR Subcommittee on International Trade & Investment and
Managing Director, Continental Carriers Pvt Ltd., said that India’s trade competitiveness will
increasingly depend on how effectively industry leverages facilitation measures like AEO and
duty deferment. Wider adoption, he noted, can significantly improve efficiency and reduce
transaction costs.
Shri Sumit Kumar, Principal Additional Director General, Directorate General of Taxpayer
Services, Mumbai Zonal Unit, stated that the focus is on making processes simpler and more
predictable. He emphasised that continued outreach and dialogue with industry are essential toensure these reforms deliver tangible benefits on the ground.
The session saw participation from importers, exporters and trade professionals, with
discussions also touching on implementation challenges and the need for greater awareness of
available schemes.
