Ministry of Finance DRI Nagpur seizes over 522.554 kg of Ganja worth ₹2.61 Crore; Two Arrested प्रव तथ: 05 JUN 2026 10:13PM by PIB Mumbai Mumbai, 5 June 2026 The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Nagpur Regional Unit of Mumbai Zone, has dismantled an inter-state drug trafficking syndicate and seized 522.554 kg of Cannabis (Ganja) valued at approximately ₹2.61 crore. In an intelligence-based, surveillance-intensive operation, two persons involved in an inter-state narcotics trafficking network operating along the Odisha– Central India corridor and supplying contraband to Maharashtra have been arrested. DRI officers intercepted a Tata Motors heavy-duty 16-ton long platform truck (LPT 1618) travelling from the Odisha–Andhra Pradesh border towards Maharashtra on National Highway-53 at the Mathni Toll Plaza near Mouda. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of eight HDPE bags containing 247 packages of cannabis (ganja), weighing 522.554 kg, individually wrapped in khaki-coloured plastic tape. The contraband was found concealed in specially created secret compartments behind the driver's seat, in a cavity above the driver’s and passenger’s seats, inside a locked toolbox beneath the truck’s cargo area, and on top of the driver’s cabin. The recovered ganja, valued at approximately ₹2.61 crore, along with the vehicle valued at ₹8.5 lakh, was seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the case. Earlier this year, in two separate but connected operations, the DRI Nagpur Regional Unit had seized over 1,250 kg of ganja worth ₹6.25 crore and arrested four individuals, including the mastermind of the trafficking network. These relentless operations demonstrate DRI’s sustained enforcement action against organised narcotics trafficking networks operating across state borders. The successful operations reaffirm DRI’s steadfast commitment towards combating drug trafficking and contributing to the Government of India’s vision of a “Nasha Mukt Bharat”. The agency appeals to the public to come forward with any information regarding drug-related activities.
