NPTI is an Apex body at the National Level for development of human resources for the power sector, with its headquarter at Faridabad, NPTI operates on an all lndia basis through its Regional lnstitutes located at Neyveli (Tamil Nadu), Durgapur (West Bengal), Badarpur (New Delhi), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Guwahati (Assam), Nangal (Punjab), Alappuzha (Kerala) and Shivpuri (Madhya Pradesh) & specialized Centres viz. Power Systems TraininB lnstitute (PSTI) & Hot line Training Centre (HLTC) at Bangalore. Several long-term and short-term training programs in the areas of Thermal, Hydro, Transmission, Distribution and Management etc. are being conducted in the various centers of NPTI. Besides conducting refresher training for working engineers/supervisors NPTI conducts a large number ofjob-oriented training programs to inculcate professional skills in the freshly pass out Graduates and Diploma holders etc. The affairs of NPTI are managed, administered, directed and controlled by the Governing Council in accordance with its Memorandum of Association, Rules & Regulations and Bye-laws. The president of the Society and the Chairman of the Governing Council is Secretary, Ministry of Power. Director General is the Chief Executive Officer of the Organisation. The Director General has powers similar to the powers of a Head of the Department under the Govt. of lndia, exercising his powers under the direction, and control of the Chairman of the Governing Council of NPTI. Conditions of Eligibility Persons who: r) has at least 17 (seventeen) years'experience and has shown capacity in: i) design, construction, operation and maintenance of generating stations; ii) transmission and supply ofelectricity; iii) applied research in the field of electricity; iv) a pplied economics; or v) industrial, commercialand financial matters and; ll) has held a) the post of Chief Engineer or equivalent or a higher grade on a regular basis for a period of at least three years under the Central Govt. or a State Govt. OR b) any post equivalent to that of a post mentioned in clause (a) above for a period of at least three years under a State Electricity Board or a Semi Govt.Organization or a Public Sector Undertaking or a University or an lndlan lnstitute of Technology or a National lnstitute of Technology. (Note: The conditions of eligibility above are the minimum and mere possession of the same would not entitle any candidate for being short-listed. Period of deputation: The period of deputation shall normally be for a period not exceeding five years from the date of appointment as Director General. The term of deputation shall be further restricted to the date on which the officer attains the age of superannuation in his parent organization, unless he is granted extension of service or is re-employed beyond the age of superannuation. Where the prescribed term of office of Director General expires before he attains the age of superannuation, the Govt. may extend the term of his office for a further period not exceeding the date of his supera nnuation. Age Limit: The maximum age limit for appointment by deputation shall not be exceeding 56 years as on the closing date of receipt of applications. Job Description: The post of Director General, NPTI is an important assignment in the field of training in the Power Sector. A competent officer with requisite background, knowledge and experience is required to fill up the vacancy to give impetus to the training activities which would increase due to the massive power development programme. lt will be the responsibility of Director General to - a) initiate, coordinate and execute training programmes in the power sector; b) assess the total training needs of the power sector in the country and set up additional training facllities, it required; c) suitably organize the training of Engineers and operators on modern lines; d) update the curriculum and training methodology to ensure that the latest technical developments in the fields of power plant engineering and associated systems as well as modern scientific management practices are incorporated in the training programmes; e) process the proposals for progress and expansion of the activities of the Society including its lnstitutions; f) administer the affairs of the society under the directions and guidance of Governing Council; and g) to exercise general supervision over various other activities under the Society' NOTE: (i) Qualifications and experience prescribed above are a minimum and mere possession of the same does not entitle any candidate to be called for interview ln case the number of applications is large, the candidates for interview may be restricted to a reasonable limit' on the basis of qualifications and experiences'(ii) Government reserves the right to reject, without assigning any reason thereof, any or all the applications received.
