From Files to Freedom: DEPwD Sets the Stage to Turn Pendency into Productivity and Waste into Resource

Posted On: 24 SEP 2026 10:29AM by PIB Delhi From clearing pending matters to reclaiming office space, from digitizing records to responsibly disposing of e-waste, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) is gearing up to make Special Campaign 6.0 a focused drive for cleaner workplaces, faster disposal of pendency and more efficient governance. The campaign, being undertaken from 2nd to 31st October 2026, will give special emphasis to the effective collection, segregation and disposal of e-waste, while institutionalizing Swachhata across the Department and its organizations.

Launched by the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG), Special Campaign 6.0 seeks to institutionalize Swachhata and minimize pendency in Government offices. The campaign is being implemented in two phases, with the Preparatory Phase from 16th to 30th September 2026, followed by the Implementation Phase from 2nd to 31st October 2026.

DEPwD has already put in place the institutional mechanism for the campaign. A Nodal Officer has been nominated for the Department, while all Subordinate and Attached Offices, Public Sector Undertakings and Autonomous Bodies under the administrative control of DEPwD have been advised to nominate their respective Nodal Officers and identify pending matters in accordance with the parameters prescribed by DARPG.

The Department is building on the momentum generated during Special Campaign 5.0, held from 2nd to 31st October 2025, when DEPwD and its organizations achieved the targets set for the campaign. During the month-long drive, 11,972 physical files/documents were digitized and weeded out, approximately 15,588 square feet of office space was freed, and revenue of ₹14,47,619 was generated. As many as 64 cleanliness campaigns, covering indoor and outdoor spaces, were also organized by the Department and its organizations across the country.

The effort, however, did not end with the conclusion of the campaign. In keeping with the guidelines of DARPG, DEPwD and its organizations have continued to undertake Swachhata and pendency-reduction activities every month since November 2025. The achievements have also been regularly uploaded on the Special Campaign 6.0 Portal (SCDPM), reflecting the Department’s emphasis on sustained action rather than a one-time cleanliness exercise.

Special Campaign 6.0 will further reinforce this approach by bringing together the twin objectives of Swachhata and good governance—reducing avoidable pendency, improving record management, freeing up usable space and ensuring responsible disposal of obsolete material, particularly e-waste. The campaign will seek to convert idle records, redundant material and pending matters into opportunities for greater efficiency, accountability and productivity.DEPwD is committed to making Special Campaign 6.0 a meaningful and outcome-oriented exercise.

Concerted efforts will be undertaken by the Department and its organizations to achieve the targets identified during the preparatory phase and to carry forward the culture of cleanliness, timely disposal and efficient use of public resources as an integral part of everyday governance.
