Drawing enthusiastic participation from thousands of aspiring youths, the Kaushal Mahotsav in Balurghat
emerged as a major platform connecting job seekers from Dakshin Dinajpur and neighbouring regions
with employment opportunities. Organized by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship
(MSDE), Government of India in collaboration with the Government of West Bengal and the National
Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), the Mahotsav witnessed a historic turnout with over 7500
interviews being conducted. More than 7,000 job opportunities from over 50+ employers provided diverse
opportunities to the local youth aspiring to build their careers in different sectors, including
manufacturing, retail, logistics, healthcare, hospitality, food processing, banking and financial services,
and other services.
The event was attended by Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for Education and Minister of State
for Development of Northeastern Region, Government of India; Shri Kshudiram Tudu, Minister – In –
Charge, Tribal Development Department, Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education Department,
Government of West Bengal; Shri Joyel Murmu, Minister of State, Irrigation and waterways department
and Tribal Development Department, Government of West Bengal; Shri Khagen Murmu, Member of
Parliament for Malda North; Shri Bidyut Kumar Roy, Member of Legislative Assembly, Balurghat; Shri
Badurai Tudu, Member of Legislative Assembly, Tapan; Shri Satyendranath Roy, Member of Legislative
Assembly, Gangarampur; Shri Rajiv Kumar, Principal Secretary, Technical Education, Training and Skill
Development, Government of West Bengal; Shri VS Arvind, Director, MSDE; Shri Balasubramanium T.,
District Magistrate, Dakshin Dinajpur; and Shri Abhishek Gupta, Superintendent of Police, Dakshin
Dinajpur.
Highlighting that education and skills serve as twin pillars of employability and success, Dr. Sukanta
Majumdar, Minister of State for Education and Minister of State for Development of Northeastern Region,
Government of India, said, “the Skill India Mission was envisioned by our Prime Minister, Shri Narendra
Modi to ensure the youth of India are skilled and are provided a platform to connect with gainful
employment opportunities and Kaushal Mahotsav is one such initiative under his guidance.”
Encouraging productive use of technology, he urged them to harness digital platforms and transform their
mobile phones into gateways for learning and growth rather than mere sources of entertainment, calling
upon the youth to adopt a culture of lifelong learning and skill development.He further lauded the efforts of Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill
Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education, Government of India, for
organizing the Kaushal Mahotsav in Balurghat. He remarked that bringing such an initiative to a remote
region reflects the Government’s commitment to ensuring that opportunities for skilling and employment
reach every aspiring youth, regardless of geography.
Employers from diverse sectors such as Royal Enfield, Wipro, Axis Bank, Barbeque Nation, Blink
Commerce, HP Cotton Casuals, Sodexo, Spandana Sphoorty Financial, Tata Projects, TVS Supply Chain,
Wipro, Kawasaki Precision Machinery, Zepto participated in the event to make it a grand success. Over
7500 interviews were conducted, and more than 4500 candidates were shortlisted.
The Kaushal Mahotsav is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship,
Government of India aimed at connecting young people with employment and career opportunities,
