Short title and commencement.—(1) These rules may be called the Coinage (Issue of Commemorative coins on the occasion of 125th Birth Anniversary of Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis) Rules, 2018. (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. Denomination of Coins.—The coins of the following denominations shall also be coined at the Mint for issue under the authority of the Central Government to commemorate the occasion of 125th Birth Anniversary of Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, namely:— (1) One Hundred Twenty Five Rupees; (2) Five Rupees 3. Dimension and composition of coins.—The coins of the above denominations mentioned in rule 2 shall conform to the following dimensions and composition, namely:— Denomination Shape and outside Number of Metal Composition of the coin diameter Serrations (1) (2) (3) (4) Quaternary Alloy One Hundred Silver - 50 Per cent Circular Twenty Five 200 Copper - 40 Per cent 44 millimeter Rupees Nickel - 05 Per cent Zinc - 05 Per cent Nickel Brass Circular Five Copper - 75 Per cent 23 millimeter 100 Rupees Zinc - 20 Per cent Nickel - 05 Per cent 4. Design.—The design of the coins shall be as specified in the First Schedule to these rules. 5. Standard weight and remedy allowed.—The standard weight of the coins of One Hundred Twenty Five Rupees and Five Rupees coined to commemorate the occasion of 125th Birth Anniversary of Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis and the remedy allowed in making of such coins shall be as specified in the Second Schedule to these rules. First Schedule (See rule 4) (i) ONE HUNDRED TWENTY FIVE RUPEES OBVERSE: This face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with the legend “सDयमेव जयत”े inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “ भारत ” in Devnagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English and it shall also bear the Rupee symbol “`” and denominational value “125” in International Numerals below the Lion Capitol.4 THE GAZETTE OF INDIA : EXTRAORDINARY [PART II—SEC. 3(i)] REVERSE: This face of the coin shall bear the portrait of “PRASANTA CHANDRA MAHALANOBIS” in the centre with the inscription “125व> जयंती” and “&शांत चं(cid:12) महालनोिबस” on upper left and upper right periphery of the coin in Devnagari script and the inscription “125th BIRTH ANNIVERSARY” and “PRASANTA CHANDRA MAHALANOBIS” shall be on the Lower left and lower right periphery of the coin respectively. The year 1893-1972 in International numerals shall be written below the portrait of “Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis” and the symbol of “Indian Statistical Institute” shall be inscribed below the year 1893-1972. (ii) FIVE RUPEES OBVERSE: This face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with the legend “सDयमेव जयते” inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “ भारत ” in Devnagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “`” and denominational value “5” in International Numerals below the Lion Capitol. REVERSE: This face of the coin shall bear the portrait of “PRASANTA CHANDRA MAHALANOBIS” in the Centre with the inscription “125व> जयंती” and “&शांत चं(cid:12) महालनोिबस” on upper left and upper right periphery of the coin in Devnagari script.
