This notification, S.O. 1533(E), issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on April 6, 2018, amends existing notifications regarding the collection of user fees on National Highways. It is issued in exercise of powers conferred by Section 8A of the National Highways Act, 1956, and Rule 3 of the National Highways (Collection of Fees by any person for the use of section of National Highways/Permanent Bridge/Temporary Bridge on National Highways) Rules, 1997.
The amendment changes the rounding method for user fees at toll plazas. Previously, fees were rounded upwards to the nearest rupee. The new rule mandates that fees will be rounded off and levied in multiples of the nearest Rs. 5. This change is intended to address the problem of change shortage, reduce transaction delays at fee plazas, and minimize inconvenience to users.
