NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 24th July, 2018
G.S.R. 671 (E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 5 and 6 of the Oilfields (Regulation and
Development) Act, 1948 (53 of 1948), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the
Petroleum and Natural Gas Rules,1959, namely :-
1. (1) These rules may be called the Petroleum and Natural Gas (Amendment) Rules, 2018.
(2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the official Gazette.
2. In the Petroleum and Natural Gas Rules, 1959, in rule 3, for clause (k), the following clause shall be
substituted, namely:-
‘(k) “petroleum” means naturally occurring hydrocarbons, whether in the form of natural gas or in a
liquid, viscous or solid form, or a mixture thereof, but does not include coal, lignite and helium
occurring in association with petroleum or coal or shale; ’.
