The Indian Nursing Council (INC) has issued an order to withdraw recognition of Amrutha School of Nursing located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
The order restricts registration of graduates from Amrutha School of Nursing to only the State of Andhra Pradesh.
Key Changes
Recognition of Amrutha School of Nursing is withdrawn effective August 4, 2023.
Graduates holding a GNM qualification from Amrutha School of Nursing after August 4, 2023, can only register as nurses within Andhra Pradesh.
The withdrawal is due to the institution's refusal to allow statutory inspections under Section 13 of the Indian Nursing Council Act, 1947.
A notice regarding the potential withdrawal was issued on May 16, 2023, to the Andhra Pradesh State Government and Amrutha School of Nursing, seeking recommendations and a response, neither of which were received by the INC.
Impact Analysis
Impact on Students/Graduates
Graduates who obtained their GNM qualification from Amrutha School of Nursing before August 4, 2023 are not affected by this notification.
Impact on Amrutha School of Nursing
The school will likely see a decline in student enrollment.
Impact on Andhra Pradesh Government/Nurses & Midwives Council
The state needs to ensure sufficient nursing workforce within Andhra Pradesh, given the limited registration of Amrutha School of Nursing graduates.

INDIAN NURSING COUNCIL
WITHDRAWAL ORDER
New Delhi, 15th February, 2024
F.No. 18-02/15639-INC.—In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 14 of Indian Nursing Council
Act, 1947 (XLVIII of 1947), the Indian Nursing Council hereby issues the following order:—
Whereas, Amrutha School of Nursing situated at 6-149/17/1 Main Road Pendurthi, Vishakhapatnam
531173, Andhra Pradesh is recognized by State Government of Andhra Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh Nurses &
Midwives Council.
Whereas, a notice no. 18-02/15639-INC dated 16/05/2023 for withdrawal of Recognition under section 14 of
Indian Nursing Council Act, 1947 addressed to Principal Secretary, Health Medical and Family Welfare Deptartment,
Government of Andhra Pradesh, 5th Block, Ground Floor, Room No. 157, A.P. Secretariat Velagapudi, Amaravathi
522503, Andhra Pradesh was issued. Copy of the notice dated 16/05/2023 was also enclosed to Amrutha School of
Nursing situated at 6-149/17/1 Main Road Pendurthi, Vishakhapatnam 531173, Andhra Pradesh. In the notice
issued, the State Government was requested to submit their recommendations to the Council as respects Suitability of
the nursing institution.
Whereas, the Council has not received any recommendation from the State Government as respects the case
of Amrutha School of Nursing, Andhra Pradesh. Even the institution Amrutha School of Nursing has not
responded to the notices issued.
Whereas, the Council has considered the matter in its entirety. Refusal for statutory inspection under section
13 of Indian Nursing Council Act 1947 is a serious issue. It is on the basis of inspections only that the Council would
be in a position to decide about the suitability of the nursing institution to conduct nursing courses. Refusal for
inspection would ipso facto mean that the institution does not possess the requisite Teaching, Clinical or
infrastructural facilities.
Now therefore, the Council exercising powers under section 14(3)(b) declares that with effect from
04/08/2023 any person holding a recognized qualification of GNM from Amrutha School of Nursing situated at 6-
149/17/1 Main Road Pendurthi, Vishakhapatnam 531173, Andhra Pradesh shall be entitled to be registered only
in the State of Andhra Pradesh.
Lt. Col (Dr) SARVJEET KAUR, Secy.
