In pursuance of Clause 5 6 vi of Ministry of Power MOP Notification on Guidelines for Determination of Tariff by Bidding Process for Procurement of Power by Distribution Licensees
This notification from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) announces the monthly escalation rates for June 2023, applicable for payments related to power procurement by distribution licensees. These rates are specifically for power generated from thermal power stations that use imported coal, as per the guidelines and policies mentioned in the notification.
Key Changes
The notification specifies the following monthly escalation rates for June 2023:
Escalation rate for imported coal: -9.10%
Escalation rate for transportation of imported coal: -5.41%
Escalation rate for inland handling of imported coal: 0.21%
Impact Analysis
Distribution Licensees
Action Items: Distribution licensees should revise their payment calculations for June 2023 based on these new escalation rates. They should also analyze the overall impact on their power procurement costs and adjust their financial planning accordingly.
Thermal Power Stations
Action Items: Thermal power stations should review their cost structure and negotiate with suppliers to mitigate the impact of the negative escalation rates for imported coal and transportation. They should also optimize their inland handling processes to maximize the benefit from the positive escalation rate.
Consumers
Action Items: Monitor electricity tariffs and advocate for fair pricing that reflects the changes in fuel costs.
Coal Importers and Transporters
Action Items: Re-evaluate pricing strategies and contracts with thermal power stations to account for the decreased escalation rates. Explore opportunities to optimize operations and reduce costs.
