India Security Press celebrated the completion of 100 years of its establishment
on 7 March 2026. The centenary celebrations were graced by distinguished
dignitaries including Anuradha Thakur, Secretary (Economic Affairs), Ministry of
Finance; Aparna Bhatia; Vijay Ranjan Singh; Suchita Anant Joshi, Department of
Posts, Ministry of Communications; and Devendra Kumar Rath. The event was
organised under the guidance of Rajesh Bansal, Chief General Manager, India
Security Press.The programme commenced with the inauguration of the Shatabdi Dwar and
Shatabdi Udyaan by the Secretary (Economic Affairs), Ministry of Finance,
marking the beginning of the centenary celebrations.Addressing the gathering, Secretary (Economic Affairs) Anuradha Thakur released
a Commemorative Postage Stamp to mark the centenary of India Security Press.
She highlighted that ISP plays a vital role in nation-building by performing critical
and sovereign functions related to security printing. She also noted that SPMCIL has
emerged as a successful example of corporatisation within the government sector.
Referring to the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she remarked
that ISP continues to strive towards the vision of “Sacred Confluence (सेवा संकल्प)”.
The Chairman and Managing Director of SPMCIL, Vijay Ranjan Singh, appreciated
the significant contributions of the two Nashik-based units — India Security Press
and Currency Note Press. He noted that together these units contribute nearly
51% of the total profit of the corporation. Expressing pride in leading the
organisation, he observed that products such as banknotes, passports and postage
stamps produced by the organisation touch the lives of every Indian citizen.
The event also highlighted the rich legacy and continuing relevance of India Security
Press in safeguarding India’s fiscal and national sovereignty. With a portfolio of over
300 security products, the Press plays a vital role in producing high-security
documents. Among its most distinguished products is the Indian Passport, often
regarded as the first interface between an Indian citizen and the global community.
To commemorate the significance of this iconic document, a coffee table book titled
“The Sovereign Seal: India’s Passport Story” was released by the Secretary
(Economic Affairs).
On the occasion, the infrastructure for the e-Passport project was also
dedicated to the nation by the Secretary (Economic Affairs), Ministry of Finance.In his welcome address, Rajesh Bansal, Chief General Manager of India Security
Press, outlined the remarkable journey of the institution over the past century and
highlighted key milestones achieved during this period. Concluding his remarks with
a quote from A. P. J. Abdul Kalam — “Excellence is a continuous process and not an
accident” — he emphasised that the Press will continue striving towards excellence
in its future endeavours.
Speaking on behalf of the workforce , President of ISP Mazdoor Sangh, Jagdish
Godse highlighted the spirit of cooperation between workers and management. He
noted that the union has supported the modernisation of the Press, even though it
resulted in a reduction in manpower from around 5,000 employees in 2004 to
about 1,050 in 2026. The modernisation process, he said, has significantly
enhanced productivity and contributed to the organisation’s overall profitability. He
reaffirmed the commitment of the workforce to uphold the prestige and legacy of
India Security Press.
