Indian Railways continuously works towards improving connectivity and passenger
amenities across the country. At present, 23 pairs of train services are operating in
the Panvel–Chiplun sector, catering to the travel needs of passengers in the Konkan
region.
The trains currently operating on the Panvel–Chiplun section include the following:

Further, Proposals/ requests/ suggestions/ representations, both formal and
informal inter alia for introduction of trains are received from Members of
Parliament, elected representatives, organizations/rail users etc. at various levels
including Railway Board, Zonal Railways, Divisional Office etc. As receipt of such
proposals/ requests/ suggestions is a continuous and dynamic process, centralized
compendium of such requests is not maintained. However, these are examined and
action as found feasible and justified is taken from time to time, which is an on-
going process.
Besides, introduction of train services on any route/section, which is an on-going
process, depends on various factors which include:Capacity of that section.
Availability of path.
Availability of required rolling stock.
Availability of matching infrastructure for rolling stock.
Maintenance requirement of railway tracks and other assets.
Station Re-Development:
Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme launched by the Ministry of Railways,
master plans are prepared and implemented in phases for the improvement and
redevelopment of railway stations The scheme also envisages sustainable and
environment friendly solutions, provision of ballastless tracks etc. as per necessity,
phasing and feasibility and creation of city centre at the station in the long term.
So far, 1337 railway stations have been identified for development under the
Amrit Bharat Station Scheme launched by the Ministry of Railways. Out of these,
132 stations are located in Maharashtra. The stations identified in the state include

Amravati, Andheri, Badnera, Balharshah, Bandra Terminus, Baramati, Belapur,

Development works at stations under the scheme are progressing at a good pace.
In Maharashtra, redevelopment works have been completed at 17 stations, namely:
Amgaon, Baramati, Chanda Fort, Chinchpokli, Devlali, Dhule, Kedgaon, Lasalgaon,
Lonand Junction, Matunga, Murtizapur Junction, Nandura, Netaji Subhash Chandra
Bose Itwari Junction, Parel, Savda, Shahad and Vadala Road.
The activities for development at other stations have also been taken up at good
pace and progress of some of the stations in Maharshtra are as given below:Redevelopmet of Diva, Mumbra, Palghar, Titwala and Vikhroli stations are
progressing rapidly. Further, development / redevelopment / upgradation /
modernisation of stations on Indian Railways is a continuous and ongoing process
and works in this regard are undertaken as per requirement, subject to inter-se
priority and availability of funds. Development / redevelopment / upgradation /
modernisation of a station is carried out based on category of
station/condition/traffic handled etc.
Maharashtra is covered under the jurisdiction of four railway zones, namely Central
Railway, South Central Railway, South East Central Railway and Western Railway.
For these zones, an allocation of ₹ 3,834 crore has been made for the financial
year 2025–26, out of which an expenditure (up to January, 2026) of ₹ 3,461 crore
has been incurred so far.
