Ministry of Information & Broadcasting Journalists from Kerala conclude five-day inter- state media tour to Goa Posted On: 28 FEB 2026 5:59PM by PIB Mumbai Goa, 28 February 2026 A team of 11 senior journalists from Kerala visited Goa from February 23 to 27, 2026, as part of an inter-state media tour organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Cochin, Kerala, in collaboration with PIB Goa. The objective of the tour was to provide first-hand exposure to the developmental initiatives and activities of Central government institutes in Goa and to showcase the State’s rich cultural and institutional landscape. The delegation comprised journalists from leading print, electronic, and digital media houses. The five-day tour offered the team an in-depth understanding of the functioning and activities of prominent Central Government institutions in the State, including National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), Mormugao Port Authority (MPA), Naval Aviation Museum, INS Hansa, ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR– CCARI), National Institute of Watersports (NIWS), Archaeological Museum and Portrait Gallery (ASI Museum), Goa State Museum, and UNESCO World Heritage churches in Old Goa. The delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the Hon’ble Governor of Goa. On the first day, the journalists visited MPA at Headland Sada, Vasco. Chairperson Dr. N. Vinodkumar and Deputy Chairperson Shri Vinayaka Rao briefed the team on port operations, future expansion plans, and key initiatives, including the development of International andDomestic Cruise Terminals. The delegation also toured the Port terminals and coal-handling facilities. At Goa Shipyard Limited, Vasco, General Manager Shri Ravi Majlikar and Deputy General Manager Shri V.V. Riju briefed the journalists on various projects undertaken under the Make in India initiative. The delegation viewed models of different categories of ships built at the shipyard and delivered to the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, and other stakeholders. At NIWS, Dona Paula, Nodal Officer Dr. Pawan Gupta and Manager Shri Ranjit Singh briefed the journalists on professional training programmes conducted in water sports such as jet-skiing, kayaking, windsurfing, sailing, and scuba diving. At ICAR–CCARI, Old Goa, Director Dr. Praveen Kumar and officials briefed the team on the institute’s functions, schemes, ongoing projects, and achievements in coastal agriculture. The journalists also undertook a field visit to observe experiments and innovative sustainable farming practices.The team visited the Goa State Museum at the Old Secretariat Building in Panaji, where Director Dr. Vasu Uspakar briefed them on preservation and conservation practices, research initiatives, and educational programmes. At the ASI Museum in Old Goa, Assistant Superintendent Archaeologist Dr. Kishore Raghubans and Assistant Archaeologist Shri Tarang Gharpure briefed the delegation about protected monuments, churches in Goa, World Heritage Sites, and conservation projects. On the third day, the journalists paid a courtesy call on the Hon’ble Governor of Goa, Shri Ashok Gajapathi Raju, at Lok Bhavan, Dona Paula. Director, PIB Panaji, Shri Nana Meshram; Director, PIB Kochi, Ms. Dhanya Sanal and Secretary to the Governor, Shri Arjun Mohan, were present on the occasion.During an engaging interaction, the Governor emphasized the importance of grandparents in instilling strong family values in children. He observed that in an era of nuclear families, where both parents are working, reduced parent-child interaction is contributing to a growing sense of loneliness among children — a trend he cautioned could have serious societal implications. He also urged the visiting journalists to promote awareness about constitutional values through responsible and ethical journalism. On the final day, the delegation visited NCPOR at Headland Sada, Vasco. Director Dr. Thamban Meloth briefed the team on India’s polar research initiatives, climate change studies, and ocean science research. A detailed presentation was made on India’s expeditions to Antarctica and the Arctic, along with the functioning of research stations. The journalists also visited the Naval Aviation Museum and INS Hansa, Vasco, where they explored various aircraft and helicopters that have played a vital role in India’s defence preparedness.The tour concluded with a visit to the PIB Office in Panaji, where Director, PIB Goa, Shri Nana Meshram interacted with the journalists. The delegation was accompanied by Conducting Officer Ms. Dhanya Sanal K and Assistant Conducting Officer Ms. Gopika G from PIB Kochi.
