The Ministry of Ayush is actively promoting Indian traditional medicine systems globally through various initiatives. These include the Central Sector Scheme for Promotion of International Cooperation in Ayush (IC Scheme), which supports Indian Ayush drug manufacturers and service providers to boost exports, promotes international recognition of Ayush systems, fosters stakeholder interaction and market development, and promotes academics and research via Ayush Academic Chairs and training programs.
A key development is the agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) to establish the WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre (GTMC) in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The GTMC will serve as a knowledge hub for evidence-based Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) and support the implementation of WHO's traditional medicine strategy. A benchmark document for Ayurveda and Unani training and practice was published in 2022, and a terminology document for Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha was published by WHO, both as outcomes of Project Collaboration Agreements with WHO. An agreement was signed with the WHO on May 24, 2025, to develop a dedicated Traditional Medicine module under the International Classification of Health Interventions (ICHI).
Furthermore, the Ministry of Ayush has signed 25 Country-to-Country Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for cooperation in Traditional Medicine and Homoeopathy, 15 MoUs with International Institutes for establishing AYUSH Academic Chairs, and 52 Institute-to-Institute level MoUs for collaborative research and academic collaboration. It has also supported the establishment of 43 Ayush Information Cells in 39 foreign nations. The Ministry offers scholarships to foreign nationals for studying Ayush courses in India under the International Ayush Fellowship/Scholarship Program.
Specific examples of MoUs include agreements with Malaysia (August 20, 2024), Angola (May 2, 2025), the National Institute of Health of Peru (April 15, 2023), the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine of Thailand (February 27, 2024), Sri Vajera Foundation, Brazil (January 9, 2024), Southern California University of Health Sciences, USA (January 13, 2024), Charles University Czech Republic (July 17, 2024), School of Persian Medicine, Tehran University of Medical Sciences (November 21, 2024), Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (January 2025), Open Health Systems Laboratory, USA (March 6, 2025), and the Institute of Traditional and Alternative Medicine, Ghana (July 2, 2025).

Ministry of Ayush has undertaken following initiatives to promote Indian traditional medicine systems
globally:
The Ministry has developed a Central Sector Scheme for the Promotion of International Co-operation in

Ayush (IC Scheme) under which the Ministry of Ayush provides support to Indian Ayush drug
Manufacturers/ Ayush Service providers to give boost to the export of Ayush products & services;
facilitates the International promotion, development and recognition of Ayush system of medicine; foster
interaction of stakeholders and market development of Ayush at international level; promote academics
and research through the establishment of Ayush Academic Chairs in foreign countries and holding
training workshop/symposiums for promoting and strengthening awareness and interest about Ayush
Systems of Medicine at international level.
