NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, 25th May, 2018.
G.S.R. 512(E).—Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas proposes to amend the definition of ‘Petroleum’
under clause (k) of Rule 3 of the Petroleum & Natural Gas Rules, 1959. Comments/feedback of
public/stakeholders are invited on the proposed Draft Amendment in the definition of ‘Petroleum’.
G.S.R. (E) _______ In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 5 and 6 of the Oilfields
(Regulation and Development) Act, 1948 (53 of 1948), the Central Government hereby makes the following
rules further to amend the Petroleum and Natural Gas Rules,1959, namely:—
1 . (i) These rules may be called the Petroleum and Natural Gas (Amendment) Rules, 2018.
(ii) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the official Gazette.
2. In the Petroleum and Natural Gas Rules, 1959, in Rule 3, for clause (k) the following clause shall be
substituted, namely:-
(k) ”Petroleum means naturally occurring hydrocarbons, whether in the form of natural gas or in a liquid,
viscous or solid form, or a mixture thereof, however, will not include Helium occurring in association
with petroleum or coal or shale”.
