**Summary:**
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, has established the National Centre for Sports Science and Research (NCSSR) to enhance the performance of elite athletes through scientific research, education, and innovation. Inaugurated at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, the NCSSR aims to apply scientific principles to promote, maintain, and enhance sporting performance; maximize athletes' potential and prolong their careers; disseminate sports science information; test and certify food supplements and indigenous preparations; apply Ayurvedic/Homeopathic medicines; and manage/rehabilitate sports injuries.
The NCSSR's multidisciplinary research focuses on sports physiology, biomechanics, athlete nutrition and metabolism, sports psychology and mental resilience, anthropometry, rehabilitation science, wearable and digital monitoring technologies, and ethical research compliance, including athlete data protection. The center will collaborate with international sports science centers and research institutions, such as the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI), University of Bath (UK), and bodies under the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Medical Commission, to bring global expertise to India's sports infrastructure. These collaborations will involve academic exchanges, technology partnerships, and co-research initiatives. A key goal is to harmonize training, testing, and rehabilitation protocols with global standards. The NCSSR will participate in international conferences and develop academic fellowships with foreign universities to promote advanced research and doctoral training for Indian scholars in sports science. This initiative was announced by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya.
