The National Commission for Women (NCW), in association with the Railway
Protection Force (RPF) and Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL), conducted a
seminar-cum-capacity building workshop on anti-human trafficking at Madgaon on
Monday (23rd February).
The workshop forms part of NCW’s ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional
mechanisms and enhance preparedness among railway and enforcement personnel
to effectively prevent and respond to incidents of human trafficking, particularly at
railway premises and transit points.
The event was graced by Smt. Delina Khongdup, Hon’ble Member, NCW, as the Chief
Guest. Ms. Asha Shetty, RRM/Karwar, attended as the Chief Guest of Honour, and
Smt. Ranjita Pai, Chairperson, Goa State Women Commission, was the Special
Guest on the occasion.
The workshop aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and sensitizing key
stakeholders on the prevention, identification, and effective response to cases of
human trafficking. The sessions covered trafficking indicators, victim identification
techniques, relevant legal provisions, rescue and rehabilitation protocols, and the
importance of inter-agency coordination.
Special emphasis was laid on the critical role of railway personnel, RPF staff, and
associated stakeholders as the first line of defence in detecting suspicious activities,
identifying potential victims, and ensuring prompt reporting and intervention.
Among the other dignitaries present were Shri Yash Mishra, Commandant-cum-
Regional Commissioner, RPF; Shri Ramawatar Singh, Deputy Director, NCW; Shri
Aniket Singh, JTE, NCW; Shri Arunendra Kumar of ARZ; Ms. Renita Menezes,
resource speaker; and Shri Hiru Kavlekar, Dy SP, KRP, along with branch officers
from KRCL/MAO.
The programme concluded with a collective resolve to further strengthen
collaborative initiatives, awareness campaigns, and coordinated enforcement
measures to curb human trafficking. Participants widely appreciated the proactive
