The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, organized an Open Day on 27
February 2026 as part of the National Science Day celebrations. The event was open to all and
provided students and visitors with an opportunity to experience the science of weather, climate,
and oceans through interactive engagement.
Around 300 students from Hujurpaga Secondary School, Katraj, Pune, Shriram Mahila Vidnyan
Mahavidyalaya, Paniv, Sholapur and School of Sciences, Christ University, Lavasa, Pune
participated in the Open Day. The programme included interactive sessions and question-and-
answer discussions, allowing students to engage directly with scientists and researchers.
Participants visited several research facilities and laboratories at IITM to gain first-hand
exposure to ongoing scientific work. The laboratories and facilities open to visitors included:
