Need for independent inquiry into alleged incident of police atrocities on student protesters in Delhi-Laid SUSHRI PRANITI SUSHILKUMAR SHINDE (SOLAPUR): This is regarding the excessive use of force by the Delhi Police against student protesters on 20 July 2026 and subsequent days. The reported use of lathi charge and tear gas against students is deeply disturbing and wholly unacceptable in a democratic society.
Students exercising their right to peaceful protest, demanding an accountable education system along with the resignation of the Union Education Minister, were met with disproportionate force, raising serious concerns about the erosion of civil liberties and the shrinking space for dissent. Even more alarming are credible reports that certain police personnel engaged in disgraceful conduct towards women protesters, including physical assaults.
Such actions are not only a gross violation of human dignity but also constitute serious misconduct warranting the strongest condemnation. This incident reflects a breakdown in accountability and adherence to established protocols for crowd control, especially in dealing with young and peaceful demonstrators. I urge the Government to order an immediate, independent inquiry into the incident, ensure strict and exemplary action against those responsible, and put in place safeguards to prevent such excesses in the future. The dignity, safety, and democratic rights of our students must be protected.
