Need to lay new rail line between Jaynagar and Raidighi in South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal-Laid SHRI BAPI HALDAR (MATHURAPUR): I wish to draw the attention of the Government to the long-pending need for improved railway connectivity between Jaynagar and Raidighi in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. Despite covering a distance of nearly 65 kilometres, this entire stretch continues to remain without any railway connectivity, causing immense hardship to the local population. More than five lakh people, including students, patients, farmers, daily commuters and workers, are dependent on inadequate road transport, resulting in longer travel time and limited access to education, healthcare, markets and employment opportunities. The lack of rail infrastructure has also hindered the socio-economic development of this backward and coastal region.
I, therefore, urge the Government to undertake an early feasibility study for a new railway line between Jaynagar and Raidighi. If the construction of a new railway line is not immediately feasible, an intermediary railway station or any other suitable rail connectivity solution may be considered. This long-pending demand would provide substantial relief to the people of the region and significantly strengthen connectivity and development in the remote coastal areas of South 24 Parganas.
