AMAR SINGH (FATEHGARH SAHIB): Halwara from point of catchment area of an airport is the geographic Centre point of Punjab and has within a 2 hour distance from almost all parts of Punjab. It can be developed as the most successful airport for all of Punjab. Ludhiana is a major industrial town and thousands of daily passengers take flights to destinations from Chandigarh or Delhi.
Currently the Halwara airport only services Delhi via Air India flights. NRIs and local residents are hopeful that eventual connectivity from Halwara shall be of a scale that actually brings relief and reduces the need to travel to Delhi for long distance air connections. There is a lot of demand from local residents for starting flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Nanded (For Shri Hazur Sahib), Patna (For Shri Patna Sahib) and Varanasi. Passengers for all these destinations currently take flights from Chandigarh or Delhi airport. Therefore, I request that above mentioned domestic destinations and international connections with flight services please be started from Halwara airport as soon as possible.
