Need to upgrade Bundelkhand Institute of Engineering and
Technology (BIET), Jhansi as a Central Technical University or
IIT or NIT.-laid
SHRI ANURAG SHARMA (JHANSI): I wish to draw the attention
of the Government to the Bundelkhand Institute of Engineering and
Technology (BIET), Jhansi, situated in the Bundelkhand region of
Uttar Pradesh. Established in 1986, BIET Jhansi is a Government
Engineering institution affiliated with Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
Technical University, Lucknow, offering undergraduate,
postgraduate and doctoral programmes. The Institute offers
courses in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and
Communication, Computer Science, Information Technology,
Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy and Management. Thousands of
students from Bundelkhand and neighbouring districts pursue
education here under experienced faculty and technical staff. BIET
Jhansi has a well-developed campus spread over more than four
hundred acres, comprising academic blocks, modern laboratories,
a central library, hostels, residential facilities, sports infrastructure
and other essential amenities. Bundelkhand remains an
educationally and industrially backward region and presently lacks
any Central Technical University, IIT or NIT. As a result, students
are compelled to migrate to distant cities for quality technical
education. Granting BIET Jhansi the status of a Central Technical
University would ensure affordable education, strengthen research,
innovation and skill development, generate employment
opportunities and promote balanced regional development.
Considering the existing land, infrastructure and academic
strength, such upgradation is both justified and feasible for the
region.
