NESIDS-OTRI to Ensure Focused Development of North Eastern Region by Providing Financial Assistance to the Eight North Eastern States for Projects Leading to the Creation of Infrastructure
**Summary:**
The North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) was initiated to promote focused development in the North Eastern Region of India by providing financial assistance to the eight North Eastern States. Approved as a Central Sector Scheme in 2017-18, NESIDS was restructured in 2022-23 into two components: NESIDS Roads and NESIDS Other Than Roads Infrastructure (NESIDSOTRI). The North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) was approved as a new Central Sector
Scheme in 2017-18 and restructured into two components viz. NESIDS (Roads) and NESIDS (Other Than
Roads Infrastructure) in 2022-23. The broad objective of NESIDS-OTRI is to ensure focused development of
North Eastern Region by providing financial assistance to the eight North Eastern States for projects leading
to the creation of infrastructure for Primary and Secondary Health Care, Primary and Secondary Education,
Power, Water Supply, Solid/Liquid Waste Management, Industrial Development, Civil Aviation, Sports,
Telecommunications, Conservations of iconic water bodies, etc. Post restructuring of NESIDS into NESIDS
(OTRI) and NESIDS (Roads), a total of 29 projects have been sanctioned under NESIDS-OTRI to the eight
NE States as on 31.07.2025, which are at different stages of implementation. An overall expenditure of Rs.
462.21 Cr has been incurred on these projects till date.
