During the last three days, the Raigad area received approximately 300–350 mm of
rainfall, including more than 250 mm in the last 24 hours, resulting in flooding of
rivers, canals and adjoining low-lying areas on both sides of the Mumbai–Goa
Highway. However, due to the above very heavy rainfall, the following locations are
experiencing temporary overtopping on NH-66:
At Kharoshi Phata, temporary submergence of the carriageway occurred due to
flooding of the Patalganga River and high tide conditions.
At Wakan Phata, flooding of the Amba River resulted in temporary accumulation
of water on the carriageway.
At Sukeli Ghat, waterlogging occurred due to heavy discharge from the
adjoining hill slopes coupled with flooding in the surrounding areas.
At Khamb, temporary submergence occurred due to flooding of the canal
crossing the highway.
NHAI has already provided sufficient bridges and drainage structures in the 84 km
Panvel–Indapur section, along with concreting of the entire road. However, due to
submergence and overflow of rivers/nallahs, the flow of water is obstructed and has
resulted in overtopping of the road. The Highway Police have temporarily restricted
the movement of traffic in these overtopped sections and movement is being
allowed as per the site situation when the water level recedes.
The movement of vehicles on two VUPs in Nagothane has been temporarily
restricted for maintenance activities (to tackle separation of concrete panels and
cracks in the panels) and vehicles are allowed to use the side/slip roads on both
sides.
NHAI is monitoring the situation continuously in close coordination with the Highway
Police, the Irrigation Department and the State administration to ensure the safe and
smooth flow of NH traffic.***
