F.No. j-27001/3/2022-Fy.—1. The Fisheries Survey of India, a sub-ordinate office under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India is hereby notified as Authorized National Agency for matters concerning marine fisheries data collection, stock assessment, determination of the status of stocks, custody of data and records within the jurisdictional waters of India. 2. The Fishery Survey of India as the Authorized National Agency shall have the following roles and responsibilities: (i) Assessment of marine fisheries stock(s), (ii) Determination and declaration of status of marine fish stock(s) as Overfished or subject to Overfishing or otherwise, (iii) Custodian of data and records of marine fish stocks, (iv) Coordination with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Regional Fisheries Management Organizations/ Agreements (RFMOs/As) and any other regional or international organizations in this regard, (v) Submission of marine fisheries data and information to the World Trade Organization (WTO) from time to time, and (vi) Perform any other task(s) entrusted by the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India. 3. Any information or data on stock assessment and determination concerning marine capture fisheries of India, published/transmitted/disseminated by any entity other than the Fisheries Survey of India shall not be accepted as National information/data in any forum either domestic or international. 4. The Fisheries Survey of India may obtain requisite technical backup from various academic/research institutions especially, the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CMFRI) for the aforesaid purpose.
