NPCIL's indigenous 700 MW PHWR at Rawatbhata (RAPP-7) reached full power on February 11, 2026, at 05:15 hrs. RAPP-7 is Unit-7 of Rajasthan Atomic Power Project-7&8 (RAPP-7&8), comprising 2 x 700 MW units at Rawatbhata, Rajasthan, and achieved its rated power operation after successfully complying with all requisite clearances from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB). RAPS-7 is the third of sixteen 700 MW indigenous Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) being established in the country. RAPP-8 commissioning is also in progress. A typical 700 MW reactor generates approximately 5.2 billion units of clean electricity annually at an 85% Plant Load Factor, helping avert nearly 4.5 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions each year. The indigenous 700 MW PHWR fleet will contribute to the targeted 100 GW nuclear power capacity by 2047 under the Government of India's Nuclear Energy Mission. Currently, NPCIL operates 24 reactors (excluding RAPS-1) with a total installed capacity of 8,780 MW, and nuclear power projects aggregating 13,100 MW are under various stages of implementation.

The Unit-7 (700 MW) of Rajasthan Atomic Power Project-7&8 (RAPP-7&8), comprising 2 x 700
MW units at Rawatbhata, Rajasthan, achieved its rated power operation today at 05:15 hrs after
successfully complying with all requisite clearances, including those stipulated by the Atomic
Energy Regulatory Board (AERB).
RAPS-7 is the third reactor of the 700 MW series out of sixteen indigenous Pressurised Heavy
Water Reactors (PHWRs) being established in the country. The 700 MW PHWRs incorporate
advanced safety features and are among the safest nuclear reactor designs globally.
The successful achievement of rated power by RAPP-7 reaffirms the robustness of NPCIL’s
indigenous 700 MW PHWR design and highlights the strong capabilities of NPCIL and Indian
industry in executing complex nuclear power projects. Meanwhile, the Light Water
Commissioning milestone of RAPP-8, following completion of hot conditioning, is currently in
progress.
