As per the final estimate of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DA&FW), oilseed cultivation area has increased from 301.92 lakh hectares in 2023-24 to 304.40 lakh hectares in 2024-25. Oilseed production has also increased from 396.69 lakh tonnes in 2023-24 to 429.89 lakh tonnes in 2024-25. The National Mission on Edible Oils – Oilseeds (NMEO-OS), approved on October 3rd, 2024, aims to boost domestic oilseed production and self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat) in edible oils. Minimum Support Price (MSP) and import tariffs are implemented to ensure fair prices for farmers, protect them from market fluctuations, reduce import dependence, and encourage domestic production. The Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) scheme also covers oilseeds to help farmers get better prices and income support. oilseed cultivation has increased from 301.92 lakh hectares in 2023–24 to 304.40 lakh hectares in 2024–
25.The production of oilseeds has also increased from 396.69 lakh tonnes in 2023-24 to 429.89 lakh
tonnes in 2024-25.
