3169. SHRI HANUMAN BENIWAL:
Will the Minister of ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS सड़क परिवहन औि िाजमार्ग मंत्री
be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government is aware of the reported increase in road accidents, vehicle fires and fatality rates on various Expressways developed under Bharatmala Pariyojana, particularly the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and the Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway;
(b) if so, the details of road accidents, fatalities and injuries reported during the last three years and the current year, Expressway-wise;
(c) whether delays in deployment of fire tenders, ambulances, cranes and other emergency response services have been reported on such Expressways in the event of road accidents or vehicle fires, if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether trauma centres proposed along such Expressways have been established and made operational, if so, the details thereof and the details of locations where such facilities are yet to be established or operationalized along with the agencies responsible therefor; and
(e) the action plan formulated by the Government to strengthen emergency response infrastructure and prevent road accidents on the said Expressways along with the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS (SHRI NITIN JAIRAM GADKARI)(a) and (b) Government publishes report on “Road Accidents in India” based on data received from States/ UTs. Based on the data available with the Government, the details of total number of road accidents and fatalities on National Highways, including Expressways, in the country during the last three years and the
current year are as under:

As per the data generated from eDAR portal on 31.07.2026, the details of road accidents, fatalities and injuries on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and Amristar-Jamnagar Expressway during the last
three years and the current year are as under:

(c) and (d) Fire Services, Police Services and Health Services comes under the sole jurisdication of respective State Governments.
However, in order to supplement the efforts of the States, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is deploying Basic Life Support
(BLS) Ambulances and Advanced Life Support (ALS) Ambulances on certain Project Highways to provide first aid/basic stabilisation and transport the accident victim to nearest Health Care facility. Cranes and Patrolling Vehicles are also provided for necessary assistance in times of emergency as soon as possible.
The Central Government in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare had sanctioned 196 Trauma Care Facilities (TCFs) in GovernmentHospitals/ Medical Colleges across the country, under the National Programme for Prevention & Management of Trauma and Burn Injuries (NPPMT&BI), during 11th Five Year Plan (2007-2012) and 12th Five Year Plan (2012-2017).
(e) Delhi-Vadodara and Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressways are continuously monitored through the ATMS (Advance Traffic Management System) installed on the completed sections of these Expressways. In case of any Accident, the Route Patrol, Crane & Ambulances are alerted for immediate help to accident victims.
NHAI has deployed 25 ambulances, 27 cranes, 27 Route Patrol Vehicles, 901 PTZ cameras, 810 ANPR cameras, 160 Radars, 150 Vehicle Actuated Speed Display, 262 Video Incident Detection System and 82 Variable Message Signs on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Similarly, NHAI has deployed 32 ambulances, 32 cranes, 32 Route Patrol Vehicles, 752 PTZ cameras, 610 ANPR cameras, 155 Radars, 149 Vehicle Actuated Speed Display, 238 Video Incident Detection System and 102 Variable Message Signs on Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway.
